Baking ideas for life: A 8-week after school program

Participants will explore a multitude of ways to be an active participant in life and many ways in which individuals contribute to the world they inhabit. Ourgoal is offer a range of hands-on work experiences that invite young adults to try-on a fuller and more connected sense of their identity. The program is designed to help participants build self-confidence and compassion for themselves and other individuals living in the surrounding community. Embedded in the learning are topics that address issues of tolerance, citizenry, power and equality.

bakers in training: 3-month program

Participants will learn (and for some) continue to build knowledge andunderstanding about where food comes from, and how to make it, bake it and share it. They will learn the importance of localand sustainable sourcing while gaining practical skills on the many aspects of baking (science, preparation and safety) in addition to cleaning of tools and safe handling and processing of baked goods. Unique to our vision, Night Owl Bakers will also learn how effective communication design, social media and marketing plays a vital role in building sustainable enterprise.

14-week apprenticeship program

Our apprenticeship program takes place in the Night Owl Bakery and/or another location with a select partner. During their employment, they will learn additional skills in business administration, food sourcing, making of new products, inventory management and quality control. Participants will be required to apply their knowledge about communications and marketing, problem solving, supply chain management, and ways technology and social networks leverage economies of scale.
